Getting into the Christmas spirit!

Grace made this cute picture with foam stickers that I bought for her to keep busy while at my parents' house.

Grace with one of her favorite people! As I write this, she is looking at the picture and singing, "Santa Claus is coming to town!"

Some Graceisms....(to keep daddy in the loop)

Dec. 17- Grace's face was dirty and I was washing it off before bedtime. I jokingly asked her what was all over her face and she quickly replied, "ladybugs!" Before I could even respond with a laugh, she said, "see it, Mama? See my froggie face?" And then she stuck out her tongue and began "ribbiting" like a frog.

Dec. 18-Grace was pointing to a Christmas card of my friends' Amber, Erik and their new baby, Ezra. I told her Amber and Erik's names and kept working on my computer. She stared at the Christmas card for a while on the refrigerator and then pointed to the baby and said, "baby Jesus!" Definitely not sure where she got this one! While we have been out and about, Grace has occasionally been identifying random babies as "baby Jesus" and commenting on "how cute" they are.

Dec.19-Last night while fighting bedtime, Grace stood at her door crying about a book that she had broke. She was quite upset and yelling, "uh-oh!" I told her I would fix the book and she could have it in the morning. This morning, while she was eating breakfast, I realized the book was still sitting unfixed on the table. I started taping it back together and Grace said, "mommy fixing the book." I told her yes I was and she replied,"it's about time!"

I'm sorry, Santa!

Grace is entering into the adorable phase of make-believe and wild imaginations and has whole-heartedly embraced the idea of Santa Clause! Thankfully, I've been able to use Santa as a kind of leverage on those more challenging days of toddlerhood.....

Last night, Grace was fighting bedtime and was still up at 9:30 pm, nearly two and a half hours after I had put her in. After laying there with her for an hour and pleading with her to lay down, I finally remembered to quote her favorite Santa song, "he sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when you're awake." Immediately, Grace closed her eyes and lay still, a complete 180 from the minute before when she was balancing on the side of her daybed and roaring like a lion. She then said, "I'm sorry, Santa!" and never made another peep before quickly falling asleep!

I'm loving being able to watch Grace enjoy the magic of Christmas through a child's eyes and imagination. But, I am already planning on my next tactical move of employing the Easter Bunny to help keep my spirited 2 year old in line!

Update from sunny California

Grace and I arrived in California on the first weekend in November, just before her 2nd birthday.

Our trip didn't start off great...I was getting over a sinus infection from the week of Halloween (or so I thought) when we got here and Grace had a bit of a cold. We ended up catching chest colds that my parents had and then my sinus infection that I thought had gone away, really had not and came back with full avengeance. The doctor said it had never gone away and gave me some really strong antibiotics (which I hate to take) and steroids. FINALLY, Grace and I are both feeling better and not contagious anymore. Being sick for well over a month has prevented us from seeing most of our family and many friends with small children. Although we have spent a lot of time with my longtime friend, Jamie, and her two toddlers because they had the same cold!

The weather has also improved out here this week. It was beautiful and hot (80s) the first two weeks in November and for Thanksgiving but then it got cold (for California!). Supposed to be a beautiful weekend so we will be heading out to the park!

We plan on returning to Colorado around the 2nd weekend of January (assuming we can get on a flight standby). Grace is already asking to go home to "mommy & daddy's house" and to pick up Maggie and Kitty at their caregivers'. Although she has had fun playing with my friends' kids and seeing family, she misses home and her doggie & kitty.

Before we head home, we will be visiting Disneyland for Grace's first trip there! She is VERY excited and calls Mickey Mouse daily on her "cell phone" to tell him that we are going to visit him at his house. We had previously planned on going 3 different times but each time, either I, Grace or my mom was sick.

I hope all of you are doing well and enjoying the Christmas season!

Welcome & 1st update!

Hi everyone!

Welcome to our new family blog! In light of recent changes in our family, I've decided to create a family blog that will keep Carlos, as well as other family and friends, updated.

Carlos was supposed to leave Denver today for Gulfport, MS but due to some processing errors, he will most likely not be leaving until this Wednesday. Grace and I plan on heading out to CA sometime this coming weekend so that we can celebrate her 2nd birthday with family and friends. We appreciate all the prayers and good thoughts that have already been sent our way by many of our family and friends during this difficult transition for our family.

We hope to continue to keep you updated and look forward to seeing many of you over the next few months.
